Job Description

The project will design new catalysts inspired byproperties of known enzymes. These include the active site chemistry, substratebinding and local environmental around the catalyst active site. The projecthas real world applications and we currently have a number of collaborations.These include replacing detergent enzymes, developing new routes to biodiesel,creating catalysis that initiate blood clotting cascade and materials thatdecontaminate nerve agents.

Funding

Funding is available for the term of a PhD.Applicants are required to have a minimum of 1st class honors or equivalentchemistry degree (or closely related field).

Job Description

To contribute to a research project on developing scalable learning-engineeringmethods to create adaptive online courseware. To achieve this goal, apostdoctoral research fellow (the postdoc, hereafter) will conduct anindependent research project (under the supervision of Dr. Matsuda, the projectPI) with a research theme selected by the postdoc based on his/her researchinterest and expertise.

Requirements

Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate (e.g., M.D., D.V.M., Sc.D.) in appropriatefield awarded no more than five years from initial date of postdoctoralappointment. Skill in computer programming in Java, Python, C++, or otherlanguages to implement and test research ideas. Skills to collect and processheterogeneous types of learning data. Skills to use major statistic packagesand data analytic tools including (but not limited to) R, SPSS, SAS, RapidMiner. Ability to securely store data; ability to maintain accurate anddetailed records of research activity; ability to understand and followdirections; ability to work closely with others and mentor graduate and undergraduateintern students on the project.

Job Description

This is a unique opportunity to be part of thedevelopment and evaluation of an exciting new approach to reducing the numberof people in nursing homes who suffer from joint contractures. Contractures area major problem for many nursing home residents, but to date there have been veryfew systematic approaches to preventing people developing them. However, amulti-agency task and finish group led by Dorset HealthCare UniversityFoundation Trust has recently developed an innovative Contracture AssessmentScreening Tool to better identify patients who are at risk of developingcontractures and prompt care staff to seek a timely review with physiotherapyor occupational therapy services.

Studentship

This studentship will provide the successfulcandidate with a wide range of training opportunities. At the completion of thestudy, the student will have had training in and experience of validationtechniques, critical realist evaluation and randomised controlled trialmethods. The student will also gain transferrable skills of networking,communication, presentation, and project management.

Benefits

Funded candidates will receive a maintenance grant of£14,777 per year to contribute towards living expenses during the course ofyour research, as well as a fee waiver for 48 months.
